Don’t let this heat wave scare you off, there are a bunch of great outdoor shows to check out this week. Baltimore’s annual Artscape takes place this weekend and features a ton of free live music and all the other weird stuff that Baltimore does so well. If that sounds a little too sweaty for you, we have some decent indoor alternatives, as well.

2012 MusiCares Person Of The Year Tribute To Paul McCartney - Concert

The holiday fuss is over, but that does not mean you should abandon your aspirations of drinking outdoors with live music. This week’s group of shows are a perfect kick-start to get you back into the swing of things.

After a brief hiatus, your weekly “Best Bets” feature is back. This week is still a little slow on the live music front, but there are a few shows worth checking out. Thursday’s Fourth of July concert blowout on the Capitol lawn is always a big draw, even if this year’s performers were hand picked by your Nana–seriously, Barry Manilow and the creepy deep-voiced kid from American Idol?? Anyway, here are some concerts that may give you a little more bang for your buck.

The XX will be at Merriweather Post Pavilion, June 15.

Summer is in full-swing. All of the outdoor amphitheaters are coming alive and we’re getting some pretty good shows out of it. Speaking of amphitheaters, Wolf Trapp has really stepped its game up this year. Yeah, there is still a lot of old folks’ music, but the quality is different than previous years and it does seem like they have made a conscience effort to inject some youth into their calendar this summer. Check out this week’s shows below.

Shark Week will perform with Paperhaus at Rock & Roll Hotel Friday, June 7.

So, this week starts out pretty slow, but come Thursday, there are a ton of awesome shows to check out. Notably absent from this week’s Best Bets is Steez Promo’s Moonrise Festival. The EDM festival was due to rock Baltimore’s Sun Park this weekend, but permit issues forced the cancellation of the festival last week. Steez Promo has indicated that they are working to reschedule some of the Moonrise artists at different venues in the area this weekend, we will let you know when/if more information becomes available.

OK, we’ll level with you, this week’s shows leave a lot to be desired. This might be a good week to get out and enjoy a rooftop bar instead. With that said, we are pretty stoked on the Thermals’ show Thursday night.
