SXSW Re-Cap: Dawes & Vampire Weekend at Radio Day Stage
Vampire Weekend was one of the biggest names on the official SXSW bill. The band’s main showcase took place Saturday night at Stubb’s. In an effort to make sure badge-holders did not totally miss out on Vampire Weekend, they played a brief 30-minute set at the convention center’s Radio Day Stage on Friday afternoon.
The Radio Day Stage hosted a number of high-demand acts in a more exclusive setting. Joining Vampire Weekend on Friday afternoon was roots-rock outfit, Dawes.
Both bands turned in impressive sets despite time constraints, but the anticipation level was much higher for Vampire Weekend. After a two-year hiatus, the band is getting ready to release a its third studio album, Modern Vampires of the City. The set was mostly material from its first two albums, but the band closed with a track off its upcoming release, “Diane Young.”
It was a solid reminder as to why everything Vampire Weekend does gets immediate buzz from the media. Check out our photos after the jump.
