Re-Cap: Sunday at Firefly Festival

Firefly Festival 2013 re-caps: Friday | Saturday | Sunday

Oh Sunday, you sly devil. On paper, Sunday was easily the weakest of the three days. It was a shorter schedule, and we had a lot of mixed feelings on the “split-headliner” idea going into the festival. Our hopes for Sunday were further dashed when a string of thunderstorms rolled in just as the bands got underway. We were in for a pleasant surprise.

Re-Cap: Saturday at Firefly Festival

Firefly Festival 2013 re-caps: Friday | Saturday | Sunday

Of the three days of music at Firefly, we were most excited about Saturday’s lineup. It was an eclectic, high-quality selection of artists that really stood out compared to Friday and Sunday.

We started our day with Japandroids. These guys were in our list of top-five must see acts, and their set was everything we expected. We have complained a bit about the lack of rock bands on this year’s lineup, but Japandroids essentially made up for that gap by itself. The Canadian two-piece had a ton of raw energy for such an early set, and the guys seemed to really enjoy what they were doing. This was the band’s last show on a long tour, and Japandroids left nothing on stage–though, they may have left some fireworks in the campgrounds.

Firefly Festival 2013 re-caps: Friday | Saturday | Sunday

The first day of Firefly Festival was packed with great acts and we could not wait to get the weekend started. By the time we fought through traffic and got our campsite all squared away, we made it inside the festival just as Wild Belle took the stage.

Wild Belle is no stranger to this blog, and we have seen the band a few times in the past year. The band’s sound is almost tailor-made for an early afternoon set at an outdoor festival. It was nice to finally see the band draw a good sized crowd at one of the festival’s larger stages.

And, we are back…

We are finally back from our weekend in Dover, and we have never been so excited to take a shower. Firefly Festival was a great time and you can expect to see a steady stream of photos and re-caps coming your way this week.

Usually, we hook you up with a “Best Bets” rundown every Monday. With a somewhat slow week in local concerts and our need to recover from all the sun/booze/etc., we are going to put this one off until next Monday.

Thanks for bearing with us, stay tuned for some great Firefly content!

The DMVicious Guide to Firefly Festival: Friday | Saturday | Sunday

Alas, here is the final installment of our Firefly guide. The festival is just days away, and the weather forecast looks amazing. The only thing left to do is pack up your camping gear and figure out how to schedule your days. We have given you the scoop on Friday and Saturday, now it is time to breakdown the Sunday schedule.

Sunday lacks some of the bigger names of the previous two days, but there is still a lot of quality music to be heard. We went ahead and skipped the early bands, because you might need to sleep a little later after two nights of partying–also, there are no real must sees in the first couple of slots.

The DMVicious Guide to Firefly Festival: Friday | Saturday | Sunday

By now, you already have the low-down on all of Friday’s artists. This week we will school you on what Saturday has to offer. We bitched a lot about schedule conflicts on Friday. Saturday has a few doozies of its own, but not quite so bad. Of the three days, this is probably the most solid schedule top-to-bottom. It also makes a lot more sense now that Firefly released an updated festival map.

Check out our picks and let us know what you think!

Firefly Festival releases an updated map for 2013

Based on last year’s layout, the festival schedule made zero sense–now everything is much clearer. Firefly has drastically expanded its festival grounds providing a lot more space at each stage.

Now we understand why artists like Kendrick Lamar and Vampire Weekend are playing the Lawn. The only drawback is it looks like a lot more travel time will be required to get to the Porch or the Backyard stages, but it is definitely a marked improvement over last year.

The DMVicious Guide to Firefly Festival: Friday | Saturday | Sunday

In anticipation of the Mid-Atlantic’s largest outdoor music festival, DMVicious has decided to bless you with our wisdom on which Firefly Festival artists are worth seeing. Every Wednesday leading up to the festival, we will give you a little glimpse at what our itinerary looks like for each day. We will also include a video of each band performing live so you know what to expect–gosh, we are so thoughtful!

Today, we give you the rundown on Friday’s schedule. Oh Friday, you son of a bitch. Of the three days, this one has far more tough calls than the others. On a more positive note, two rappers from our Hottest MCs of 2013 list are performing on Friday (Also, the guy who topped that list is performing Saturday). Anyway, here’s what we came up with:
