freefest2013

It’s another big week of concerts in the DMV. Aside from a handful of solid club shows, the coming weeks present your last opportunities to catch a show at Merriweather Post Pavilion this year. What better reason to hit MPP than Free Fest? This year’s event features Vampire Weekend, Robin Thicke, Black Joe Lewis, MGMT, Icona Pop and many more.

So, this is not the best week of shows we’ve had, but it could be worse. Last week was full of gigantic amphitheater/arena shows. This week skews more toward small club shows with the exception of one gigantic concert Thursday night.

After a brief hiatus, your weekly “Best Bets” feature is back. This week is still a little slow on the live music front, but there are a few shows worth checking out. Thursday’s Fourth of July concert blowout on the Capitol lawn is always a big draw, even if this year’s performers were hand picked by your Nana–seriously, Barry Manilow and the creepy deep-voiced kid from American Idol?? Anyway, here are some concerts that may give you a little more bang for your buck.
