Best Bets: Concerts you should probably check out

freefest2013

It’s another big week of concerts in the DMV. Aside from a handful of solid club shows, the coming weeks present your last opportunities to catch a show at Merriweather Post Pavilion this year. What better reason to hit MPP than Free Fest? This year’s event features Vampire Weekend, Robin Thicke, Black Joe Lewis, MGMT, Icona Pop and many more.

MusicfestNW has an awesome lineup

musicfestnw

In the ever-growing field of summer music festivals, MusicfestNW has managed to do the impossible: curate a lineup that is actually different from the 97 other festivals planned for this summer. We really like the attention paid to smaller indie artists and buzz bands. Of course, a festival this cool can only happen in Portlandia–may be worth the trip.

Highlights include: Animal Collective, Diplo, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Fred Armisen, Deerhunter, Charles Bradley, Chvrches, Joey Bada$$, Icona Pop, Youth Lagoon, !!!, Washed Out, the Thermals, Titus Andronicus, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, FIDLAR, Bleached and so many more.

Check out the MusicfestNW website for more info.

New Music Round-Up

In our never-ending quest to keep you up to date on all the happenings of the music world, we’ve decided to post a weekly round-up of all the new music you should check out.

rhye-womanRhye, Woman
This super-secretive duo is comprised of vocalist Mike Milosh and producer Robin Hannibal. To the uninitiated, Milosh’s voice sounds like it belongs to a woman, but that makes the music even more interesting and disarming. The album is based on both men’s separate journeys to Los Angeles in pursuit of love. The result is some of the best baby-making music we’ve heard in some time.

More after the jump.
