Playlist: Trillectro Music Festival 2013
This time tomorrow, we’ll be on our way to Trillectro! Check out our playlist featuring this year’s artists. Who are you stoked to see tomorrow?
Baltimore’s inferiority complex hits new low
By now, most Washingtonians have at least heard of Baltimore Sun’s asinine list of “100 reasons why Baltimore is better than D.C.” After reading the headline, my initial response was the familiar, “Aw, they’re still trying.”
Then I spent a chunk of my life–which I will never get back–clicking through a list that was obviously written by someone who has not spent a lot of time in either city. Granted, the writer has a few valid points–Old Bay, Natty Boh and Cal Ripken, Jr. are pretty darn cool. The rest is a bunch of re-tread bull-shit about how D.C. is expensive and full of politicians, etc.
To pick out every ridiculous item on the list would take all day. Since this is primarily a music blog, let’s just take a look at the most ridiculous music/nightlife-oriented items.
New Music: Misun – Hills and Trails
Check out this new track by one of our favorite local artists. We have been looking forward to Misun’s set at Trillectro this weekend, and this track has certainly taken things up a notch.

New Music: Teen Mom – “Kitchen”
It sure is a good day for local music. Teen Mom just dropped a new track called, “Kitchen.” This is the band’s first new music since the Mean Tom EP.
The song is a little bit of a departure from the band’s usual formula. “Kitchen,” is nearly seven minutes long and features a more dynamic arrangement than the band’s previous work. Despite the added layers on this song, it still captures the lo-fi pop brilliance we have come to expect from Teen Mom.

Virgin Mobile FreeFest lineup announced
Virgin Mobile and Samsung Mobile have released the lineup for this year’s FreeFest. Good news for people who like EDM music: Most of the lineup is geared toward you.
This year’s lineup appears much smaller than years past, and also seems to be lacking its token hip-hop and nostalgia acts. Maybe there is more to come?
Interview: Shark Week comes early for D.C.
Though the Discovery Channel will not be airing its shark-oriented programming until August 4, local garage-rock outfit Shark Week is just days away from a week full of milestones.
Shark Week will play 9:30 Club for the first time this Saturday. The band’s 7″ vinyl, Santurce, will be released next Tuesday, and that will be followed by Shark Week’s first proper tour that Friday. Maybe we can call this Shark Week-Week? [Ed. Note: Sorry :/].
Luckily, the band had a few minutes for a quick video chat earlier this week. We got a chance to ask Ryan, Danielle, Dan and Alberto about recording in Puerto Rico, the ups-and-downs of SXSW and more. Check out the interview below!
