Last night was a pretty big deal for DMVicious. Our first real foray into the local music scene was during the heat of the D.C. Ska era in the early 2000s. As such, D.C. ska legends, the Pietasters, are very near and dear to our heart.

In 2001, the Pietasters lost its bass player, Todd Eckhardt, to a viral heart infection. Eckhardt was one of the principal songwriters for the band and his loss left a lasting impact on the band and the D.C. ska community at large. Last night, D.C. Brau and Ska Brewing co-sponsored a benefit show at the Black Cat for the Todd Eckhardt Scholarship at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts.
