Miguel’s Billboard Music Awards leg drop gets WWE treatment

MIGUEL-MURDER

R&B crooner Miguel’s brief performance stole the show at last year’s Grammy awards. He kind did the same last night at the Billboard Music Awards when he decided to go all Hulk-Hogan-leg-drop on some chick in the audience. The moment was crazy enough to get its own WWE Monday Night RAW treatment (video after jump).

Side note: What the fuck is the deal with Pitbull? It feels like a bunch of record execs were at meeting, and someone was like, “Hey, you know how we can really destroy that little shred of integrity left in pop music? Let’s put Pitbull on everyone’s song, no matter how little sense it makes. ¡Dalé!”

Obamas to honor “Memphis Soul” at White House

Justin-Timberlake-New-Song

The Obama family is gearing up to host the latest installment of its In Performance at the White House concert series. With previous events honoring Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Motown and blues music, next week’s edition will honor “Memphis Soul.”

We initially scoffed at reports touting Justin Timberlake as a featured performer. Don’t get it twisted, J.T. is cool in our book, but there are a number of other artists more suited for a Memphis Soul tribute. Luckily, a lot of those artists are also on the bill: Al Green, Booker T. Jones, Queen Latifah, Alabama Shakes, Sam Moore, Ben Harper, Mavis Staples and many more.

RDGLDGRN On Jimmy Kimmel Live

rdgldgrn2

Local rock/go-go/hip-hop fusion band, RDGLDGRN made its television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night. We had the pleasure of meeting Gold and Green at SXSW last week, and we’re super stoked for them–really nice guys.

Video: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on SNL

There was a time, long ago, when performing on Saturday Night Live meant that you had made it as a musician. Unfortunately, over the last few years the show lost some of that prestige via questionable bookings (read: Karmin).

Anyway, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis made the most of their appearance on SNL this weekend and it looks like they plan on sticking around for a while.

“Can’t Hold Us” performance after the jump.

Morning After: The 55th Annual Grammy Awards

If we learned one thing last night, it is that we are not very good at predicting winners at the Grammy Awards. The theme of last night’s awards seemed to be “White Guys With Guitars.” The Black Keys, Fun. and Mumford & Sons were the night’s big winners.

We went into the evening rooting hard for Frank Ocean, who went home with two Grammys, but neither of which for the categories we thought he deserved.

Apparently everything Lena Dunham touches turns gold these days, because Fun. was all over the place last night. Though, it is eternally frustrating when a band decides to debut a new song at the award shows instead of its other two hits that everyone already likes.

We have one other bone to pick with Fun.: How do you justify accepting awards for “We Are Young (Feat. Janelle Monae)” without so much as a passing mention of Janelle Monae?!?
